Insanity & Results
“Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.” — Undetermined
Mass Shootings. This is not our first trip to this rodeo. In fact, this is our 220th trip since January 1, 2020.
Mass Shootings Occur. In a school containing little children. Or a grocery store with elderly people and a man getting a last-minute birthday cake for his 3-year-old.
Media Blitz. Even mainstream and left-wing media change the language to normalize it all. “GunMAN” becomes “shooter.” “Children” become “young students.” And the right-ring media sing a story of a godless nation causing mental imbalance that perpetuates damaged people who kill.
Thoughts and Prayers. Politicians stand up and put out the same rhetoric: thoughts and prayers from those who haven’t allowed the laws to change — or fought hard enough. “Grief overwhelms the soul. Children slaughtered. Lives extinguished. Parents’ hearts wrenched. Incomprehensible. I offer prayer and condolence, but know that it is grossly inadequate. We must find answers.” — Mitt Romney
Mitt Romney, who has received more than $13,000,000 from the NRA, and who doesn’t find this “incomprehensible” any more than you or I do. We did after Columbine, but not now. Mitt Romney, who knows this will go away in a few weeks. Chris Murphy gets on his knees on the Senate floor and begs for a vote he knows won’t come. And he knows that for the last 20 years, he’s been doing the same thing with the same results and still getting reelected.
Social Media Gun Debates and Hours/Days of Outrage. “It’s always ‘Stop women from killing fetuses’ and not ‘Stop men from shooting literally anyone.’” — Kate Arden McMullen
“Texas doesn’t have a hotline if you see a man go into an elementary school classroom with his AR-15, but it does have a hotline if you see a woman go into a Planned Parenthood parking lot with her car.” — Mrs. Betty Bowers
“The school district for Robb Elementary has its own police department with five cops and one security guard. The city of Uvalde’s police department received just under 40% of the entire city’s budget for the year and got a $500K grant from the state. Neither stopped today’s massacre.” — Muffuletta Matzo Man
No One Does Anything. Time passes, and it all fades away. No politicians are held accountable. No laws change except to protect the domestic terrorists from anything that would thwart their ability to carry out their attacks.
Back to Normal. Except, of course, for the parents, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, spouses and neighbors of those lost.
Elections Reelect Those Who Protect Domestic Terrorists. Those accountable, from senators to police chiefs, are reelected over and over again. There is no accountability for those who are in the position to change the trajectory that has brought us here.
My fellow Americans, we have to face reality. This is the majority rule’s vision of America. The truth is that the gunMEN, are protected by “we the people.” We are their accomplices. And the America that I used to so proudly call my own has a majority of people who find this acceptable. The voters are uninformed, or racist, or pathetically unengaged, and the horrible state of this country is now on “we the people.” The voters — individual Americans — are the ones with the power to change what this country has become. Marjorie Taylor Greene handily won her primary last night.
“Our nation needs to take a serious look at the state of mental health today. Sometimes meds can be the problem. America is failing our youngest generations from decades of rejecting good moral values and teachings. We don’t need more gun control. We need to return to God.” — Marjorie Taylor Greene
We must face the reality that this is the America we have elected.
